What does a Data Scientist do?
Data Scientists are big data wranglers, gathering and analysing large sets of structured and unstructured data. A Data Scientist’s role combines computer science, statistics, and mathematics. They analyse, process, and model data then interpret the results to create actionable plans and inform decision making.Data Scientists are analytical experts who utilise tools from both technology and social science to find trends. They use industry knowledge, contextual understanding, and scepticism of existing assumptions to uncover solutions to business challenges. On the Umuzi programme you will learn how to work with structured as well as messy, unstructured data. You’ll learn to clean and manipulate data before you analyse it and use it to build models. Finally you’ll learn to visualise your results and interpret them to help non-technical colleagues understand your findings so that your work can inform practical decisions.

What does a Data Engineer do?
Data Engineering is the process by which companies gather and manage the large amounts of data they collect from their users and services. Data Engineers are the people responsible for gathering data from various sources and creating pipelines that transform the data to make it usable for others, such as Data Scientists, to generate business insights. Data Engineers are often the unsung heroes in “big data” applications.Data Engineering is a specialist type of software engineering. One of their many sought-after skills is the ability to design, build, and maintain data warehouses, where raw data is transformed and stored in queryable forms. On the Umuzi programme you will learn how to Extract data from various sources, Transform it so that it is clean and in the right format, and Load it into various databases and applications so that it can be useful.

What does a Full-Stack Web Developer do?
Full-stack web developers build, and work with, the websites and applications that consumers engage with (the front-end) along with the servers and databases that speak to those website and applications (the back-end). The line between what can be done on the front-end vs the back-end is getting blurry and employers increasingly value these full-stack skills. There are several advantages to being a Full-stack Web Developer:● Understand all the moving parts in a development project
● Rapidly create a prototype to test an idea
● Reduce project costs
● Simplify and streamline team communication
● Get to grips with all aspects of new and upcoming technologiesOn the Umuzi programme, you’ll build real software and solve challenging problems, helping you to learn and practice as you work.
